I broke out some more Hair of the Dog beers this weekend. Fred is labeled a golden special ale which isn’t a thing, it just means that Fred is a high alcohol gold colored beer. Look at that big, thick head. Sarah says it looks like ice cream. There is a hint of orange in the nose, and some sweet malt, and a healthy bit of booze. The flavors are reminiscent of a light barley wine, but overwhelmed by alcohol. The bitterness is pretty light, the rye malts are there but subtle. Overall I think Fred could do with some more age or maybe less age.
