Green Flash Brewing’s Rayon Vert is a perfect blend of American hops and Belgian yeast. It’s an American Pale Ale bottle conditioned with brettanomyces yeast, and like all the brett beers I’ve ever opened, it was a bit of a gusher. I thought this was going to be a straight up American Pale Ale, all citrus on the nose. The flavors started out the same way, oranges and lightly toasted bread. And then it takes a turn, a tart turn. The brett adds a nice weirdness. Some people call it funk. I just think it’s a subtle tweak on a sort of run of the mill beer. The finish is dry and crisp with that funky aftertaste. Really interesting combination of styles.
