The return of the Flanders style sour ale.
After the last Flanders bottle we shared tasted like flat coke and stomach acid, Sarah was understandably reticent to dive into the Rodenback Grand Cru. At first it smelled like brown fruits. Sarah says those are figs. I also found a hint of cola. The flavors were sort of over powered by sourness. I found some lemongrass and cranberry, but it is so tart. Sarah still prefers her lambics. The Grand Cru didn’t taste like beer, but the sourness is a little out of balance for our tastes.
I’m watching the Oscars and sipping on this Bourgogne des Flandres. I thought Sarah might like Flanders style beers because they are supposed to be more fruity and less bitter. It’s tart, but it smells like dark malts. I think it tastes like sort of flat Coke. Sarah says it tastes like stomach acid.
