I have never seen a beer explode before, but this was a gusher. I guess that’s what brettanomyces will do. Seizoen Bretta is brewed by Logsdon Farmhouse Ales in Hood River. As a brewery Logsdon is just getting started and already making a big impact. Their Peche ‘n’ Brett lasted only a day or two on the shelves.
This saison is like nothing I’ve had so far. The brett adds a delicious sour funkiness. As it spurted all over the counter I could smell it, like a delicious geueze. It’s only sort of sour though. There is still a beer like aftertaste according to Sarah. The funky smell gave off some apricot or peach. It’s tart, but not acidic. The finish is crisp with a hint of pepper. I am definitely paying attention to Logsdon from now on.
