I love Rioja wines. My sister in Germany, Kathleen, taught me all about them. Fruity, yet dry. Spicy, and a little bit sweet. This one is from Zuazo Gaston in Spain. It has a super dark smell, dark plums or prunes with a hint of spice. The spices remind me of cinnamon and nutmeg, winter. The plums could be cranberries. It’s almost a Christmas wine. The dry tannin, tea flavor keeps it from becoming a dessert. I guess that’s what a year in oak will do.
